About Pop's Place

Decatur IL’s Local Spot for Live Music, Cold Drinks & Delicious Food!

Rick & Kathy Scott opened Pop’s Place in 2008 – a local bar & restaurant for music, drinks & food. When we opened Pop’s Place Food & Spirits, our goal was to bring Decatur, IL a fun, relaxed atmosphere coupled with great food and live entertainment. We love the blues and decided that every Sunday afternoon, our place would feature live blues from some of the most talented local artists. We have booked some fabulous musicians throughout the past 10 years, and we plan on continuing this tradition!

Traveling across Illinois on our way home and I always look for the random hometown bar for the best food and service - and Pop’s Place did not disappoint! Kim greeted us right away and provided excellent service. Food was hot and delicious. No frills atmosphere, but perfect hometown vibe. A few regulars in the bar (late afternoon). Music and slot machines. Would definitely stop here again when traveling through Illinois.

Expected a really good meal based in person recommendations. Too bad we weren't locals to deserve good service. Let me preface the rest by saying my wife and I try to pick local places when we travel to get new experiences, this normally produces good to excellent results. This is based solely on a single experience, but if you're not local, don't bother. We were seen coming in and a waitress told us to seat ourselves. (It was 1 o'clock on a Thursday afternoon. Place was maybe a third full, except for the bar which was 100 % full.) We sat in an easily observable table in the eye line of the wait staff/bartenders. It took roughly 10 minutes to figure out that we had not even been asked for drink orders - another 10 minutes to receive the drinks (iced tea and diet Pepsi) and finally order. Service remained consistently poor for the remainder of the visit. The locals at the bar and at the tables on the bandstand received excellent service from what we could see. The tables on the bandstand received their meals in roughly half the time it took for ours, the gentlemen at the bar had time for multiple rounds of drinks, even those who came in after us. The food was also disappointing t

Everyone is friendly. Great service and pretty fast. You can bring your kid's, too. They will love the fries. Family friendly, overall, but nobody cares if you go in alone for a few shots and a game. πŸ‘Œ

I love pops! The people that work there are always friendly and the owners are amazing! The food never disappoints. They even partner with the animal shelter for charity events, can’t get much better than that!!!

This is a wonderful hometown bar and restaurant in Harristown, IL. I had a catfish sandwich with baked beans and applesauce. Excellent. A chicken wrap with waffle fries is delicious too. Kim, the bartender was very nice and helpful. She can tell you all about the bar and the food. Just a sweet and friendly lady. Their cheeseburger is big and tasty. There's also Daily Specials including country fried steak on Fridays. There's pool tables and live music 2-3 nights a week. Plenty of outdoor seating too. Even an area outside that is covered. The locals are friendly as I talked with Wayne and learned about a band that plays on Sunday afternoons. Overall, I highly recommend the old school Pop's Place.
